Chapter 15 – Chief Arvol Looking Horse & World Peace and Prayer Day (2007)

It was the summer of 2007. Debbie was celebrating her 45th birthday. Debbie, Cathy and I met at South Beach, Florida for a wild weekend amongst friends. It was a great time together but something was missing for me. I was desiring at a deeper level more intimacy with the Unknown. I always found myself either experiencing strange and curious situations, or the people I became friends with were connected to something woo woo. I remember clearly standing in the Miami International Airport waiting for my flight back to New York  and I was pissed. I was fuming. Why was the Unseen and Unknown always dancing with me in what seemed like a tease, but no real connection. I stomped my feet and demanded a teacher or someone to show me the way and to help me understand more intimately what seemed to be trying to reach me.

When I returned to NY, I found out that Chief Arvol Looking Horse was coming to speak at the New York Open Center. I knew I had to go. For those of you who do not know Chief Arvol Looking Horse, he is considered the last pipe carrier of the Lakota, Nakota and Dakota people.  Why the last? Because when his grandfather passed on the designation to him as Spiritual leader of his tribe, he told him that we, as a race, might not survive long enough for him to pass the pipe down to the next leader. Nice, don’t you think?

So, here I am going to make a little confession. I was somewhat obsessed for many years with the thought that there were going to be major catastrophic earth changes. It was a combination of reading Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus predictions, Gordon-Michael Scallion, the Hopi Prophecies, and the Mayan Prophecies. Now I hear that Chief Arvol Looking Horse is coming to New York and he is speaking about this topic.

So I ask my dear friend Karen to go with me. As I sat there and listened to Chief Arvol, he was asking us to help change the trajectory of this seemingly inevitable future catastrophe through the raising of human consciousness and prayer. Finally, someone figured out what can be done other than building shelters or buying property in a ‘safe’ zone. I left the Open Center feeling a little better about our predicament. At least there was something we can do.

Then something interesting started to happen. I kept thinking I should hold a ceremony in Puerto Rico for World Peace and Prayer Day and do my part. This would require that I contact the indigenous people of Puerto Rico and ask the Elders to hold ceremony at a sacred site on the Summer Solstice which is June 21st. The minute I had the thought I said to myself ‘No way! That’s final. No way!’ So what happens next?  The freakin voice doesn’t stop. No matter what I do, what I say, how much I meditate, the thought persisted. So I gave in.

I call Karen since she had told me she was at a Long Dance in Florida recently and met a Grandmother from Puerto Rico.  I asked her if she could introduce me to her. This is how I met Grandmother Ayleen. When I contacted her, she said to me to come see her the next time I was in Puerto Rico, which happen to be in December of 2007.

When we met, I told her of my idea and she asked me to sit inside this pyramid she built inside her altar room. After meditating for a while, she gave me a red tail hawk feather, we call this bird guaraguao in Puerto Rico. It comes from the Taino language. She told me that although it came from a young bird, that the feather was powerful. She also asked me to write a letter to the Grandmothers and Grandfathers of the Taino nation requesting their participation in the ceremony for the next Summer Solstice.

This is the letter I wrote:

December 30, 2007

Dear Grandmother Ayleen & All Elders of the Taino Council,

I humbly come before the Council in the hopes to get your blessing in performing a ceremony to honor Mother Earth.  The ceremony would take place on a sacred Taino site chosen by the Council and would take place on June 21st, 2008.

This all started earlier in the year when I asked my friend Karen Goldsmith to accompany me to see Chief Arvol Looking Horse speak at the NYC Open Center.  What interested me about this lecture was that Chief Arvol is the last pipe holder in the lineage of the White Buffalo Calf Woman. I have been aware of not only the prophecy of earth changes to come from this “legend” but the prophecy left by the Hopi, the Mayan and many other mystics of ancient and recent time.  But, after hearing Chief Arvol, something shifted within me. I went from feeling resigned to accept the fate of mankind to one of HOPE! This is the key. We need to have faith and hope that we can change the direction of humankind. I have come to believe that all of us, if we truly believe, can make the difference.  The question I have is can we raise the calibration of human consciousness to the point of creating the 100th monkey.

Ok.  Now I don’t make sense. Let me explain.   Dr. David R. Hawkins wrote in this book Power vs Force about how all human beings calibrate at different levels ranging from 0 to 1000.  Most people calibrate under 200. Jesus Christ for example calibrated at 1000. Christ presence was enough to raise the overall consciousness of humankind when he walked the earth.,  as well as other Ascended Masters that came before and after him. There happens to be a direct link between how we calibrate as a human family and the overall health of Mother Earth and her inhabitants.  So the goal is to get more members of the human family to calibrate above 300, which basically means they are becoming “conscious” and aware. Once enough people calibrate at 300, the 100th monkey phenomenon can occur.

The story behind the 100th monkey is that there were scientist observing monkeys on an isolated island.  The scientist decided to throw their favorite fruit on the sand to see what would happen.  One monkey chose to wash his fruit in the ocean to remove the sand. This was a new behavior and captured the attention of the scientist.  Before they knew it, more monkeys started to emulate what the first monkey did until most monkeys were washing their fruit. What came as a total surprise to the scientist was that monkeys in neighboring islands were starting to emulate the monkeys from the first island.  Somehow, after X amount of monkeys washed their fruit, it became part of their “monkey consciousness”. The hope here of course is to get enough human beings to honor Mother Earth so that the human family as a whole will follow.

So, when I left the Open Center, I got this nagging and unrelenting idea to host or help pull together a World Peace and Prayer Day on the Sacred Island of Borike.  I remembered how a tour guide at El Yunque told me that once a year all the Tainos would gather in El Yunque to pray since this site was considered very sacred to all the tribes.

Quoting from the Lakota website….

“All Nations, All Faiths, One Prayer!

Following the birth of a White Buffalo calf in 1994, the Keeper of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe for the Lakota, Dakota, Nakota Nations, Arvol Looking Horse, was directed to honor the Four Directions with ceremony on June 21st.  According to Lakota Star Knowledge, the birth of Miracle, a female white buffalo, signaled a time of earth changes and the coming of the mending of the Hoop of All Nations. The Summer Solstice is said to be a powerful time to pray for peace and harmony among all Living Beings. Grandmother Earth’s gifts, the air, water, plant and rock nations must be allowed to heal if we are to live in harmony with her.

All Nations recognize Sacred Sites as Places to gather or perform private ceremony.  For countless generations these Sites were honored, cherished and strengthened through ceremony and our Mother remained healthy. To ensure the lives of future generations for all our relations, we must begin to honor, cherish and renew Our Mother.

We are now promoting to create a mass awareness of ‘ all nations, all faiths, one prayer’ to encourage everyone to take time on June 21st and join in the united prayer/meditation to heal our Grandmother Earth.”

“Message from Chief Arvol:

Almost [all ancestors of Nations] upon Mother Earth recognized the Summer Solstice as a significant time and journeyed to their Sacred Sites to give thanks and offer prayers to ensure a bountiful Mother Earth.

Our vision is for Peoples of all continents to come together as ONE at their Sacred Sites to pray, meditate and commune with one another, on this day, thus promoting an energy shift to heal our Mother Earth and achieve a united consciousness toward attaining Peace.

My Grandmother once told me to understand that every person can have a good heart, a heart big enough to change the world. She said the Great Spirit wouldn’t give us something we couldn’t handle.

Know that you yourself are essential to this World. Believe that. Understand both the blessing and the burden of that. You yourself are desperately needed to save the Soul of this World.

Did you think you were put here for something less?

Chief Arvol Looking Horse”

My reason for presenting this idea to the Taino Council is that I envision the ceremony being  conducted by a Taino Elder who is knowledgeable about our indigenous traditions and is willing to conduct the Sacred Ceremony.  If the Council meets and decides to participate, my only expectations from the Council would be to select the Sacred site and conduct the ceremony on behalf of those attending.  Any guidelines given by the Council will be respected and honored.

I would take full responsibility to coordinate to the best of my ability all other aspects of the ceremony such as notifying the Lakota Nation,  contacting government agencies if necessary to get permission to perform the ceremony on the chosen Sacred Site, respond to inquiries from interested participants,  arrange for lodging and other information for participants that will travel from outside the Island, as well as communicate the wishes of the Council to the participants.

I will close by stating ahead of time my profound gratitude for the opportunity to bring this request before the Council and I am fully prepared to abide by the decision made by my Elders.

Respectfully and With Love,

Lalu

The Sacred Circle of Borike convened and decided to hold the World Peace and Prayer ceremony on June 21, 2008 in the sacred site called Charco Azul located in Guavate, PR.
