Why Meditate

We finally arrived at a point where scientist and spiritual leaders can stand on common ground.  Let’s take the cell.  At first, we were able to determine that human beings are made up of lots of space & many particles called cells.   With advances in technology, we were able to look further into the cell and determine that cells were made up of more space and more particles which we called atoms.  With further advances in science,  we were able to determine that the atom was composed of space and other particles called proton,  neutrons and electrons.  So forth and so on….

Scientist now agree that we are made up of space and particles that “agglutinate” or gather to create form by and unknown energy that has awareness.  How else can we explain the “miracle” of life, where a fertilized egg can lead to a full and perfectly formed human being.  Encoded in this cell is everything from the  color of  our hair, eyes and skin to our height and personalities, etc….

In essence, we are all made up of an energic creative force that has awareness and consciousness.

Now, let’s call this ever expanding creative force in the universe of which we are come from Spirit.  You can call it anything you want.  G_d, the universal consciousness, Christ, Buddha, the Great Mystery, the Great Spirit…..

So if all that separates us is space and particles,  we are in essence connected to each other.  What disconnects us is our perception of separateness – the image of ourselves as individuals.  In other words,  our egos.

I am Melisa the mother, the wife, the martial arts instructor, the meditation teacher, the spiritual mentor,  etc…..  In reality, I am much more than that.  I am part of Spirit – that ever expanding creative force in the universe.  I am part of you and you of me.  That is our heritage and the heritage of human kind.

When we are born and before we engage in self-awareness, we have a very clear connection to “Spirit”.  It’s only over time that this connection starts to pick up static and becomes less clear.

Carlos Castaneda’s teacher was Don Juan Matus, a Yaqui Indian from Mexico.  He was a sorcerer (which by definition is “one who seeks to connect to the source”) from a long lineage going back to antiquity.   He is quoted as saying,  “Whenever the internal dialogue stops, the world collapses, and extraordinary facets of ourselves surface, as though they had been kept heavily guarded by our words”.

In other words,  our thoughts and words hold firm this world.  Upon quieting the mind,  our true nature and all our possibilities become evident.

When we enter into the NOW, or into the GAP,  we are essentially disconnecting from the physical world of thoughts and things and entering into pure “Spirit”.  Imagine that….being  able to connect and recharge and heal by plugging into our power “source”.

That is what meditation is all about.

If this is not enough to motivate you to meditate,  then let’s talk briefly about the Power of Attraction that has been fueling so much debate since the launching of the popular DVD and book  called “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne.  In the dvd,  they explain that we are again beings of energy and like all things that are made of energy we either attract to us or repel from us everything that is in our lives.  In other words,  we are magnets.

The law of attraction states that if you are a positive person that is giving and joyful towards others,  life in general will be positive and we will attract positive and joyful circumstances into our lives.  It goes further to state that what you are thinking is what you manifest into your life.  Since we have over 60,000 thoughts per day,  it’s hard to monitor your thoughts.  So,  they tell you to monitor your emotions.  Good emotions lead to positive results…..Bad emotions lead to negative results.

Now,  if we take into account the nature of the mind.  This can be very difficult.  Our minds flits from one thought to the next like a galloping horse or the ever ready bunny.  If we can stop our thoughts and connect to our source or Spirit,  we can recharge, calm the mind and relax the body.  In addition to this,  the Edgar Cayce method of meditation helps you to change how you think.  If you tend to be negative and ponder on the negative possible results of situations and people in your life,  then this is great tool for you.  It is also a great tool to bring a spiritual or physical ideal from the mental realms into the physical realm.  In other words,  we can learn to change our lives ,  “we can become the Micheangelos’ of our own Davids”.

Edgar Cayce Method:
First you choose a spiritual ideal….let’s say that to manifest our wish list we want to stay positive and in doing so,  the universe will deliver to us abundance and joy.  So, our spiritual ideal would be “I am  abundant and joyful.”

  1. Neck excersises

.           Drop chin forward towards chest gently and back up again (3X)

.           Drop head back towards back gently and back up again (3X)

.           Drop right ear to right shoulder gently and back (3X)

.           Drop left ear to left shoulder gently and back (3X)

.           Make wide circular movements with head – clockwise (3X)

.           Repeat – counter clockwise (3X)

  1. Breath: Take three deep breaths  and then relax your breath.

III.       Relax:  Go over your body and release tension from the toes to the top of your head.

  1. State your ideal in your mind. What does this ideal mean to you? Try to expand on this and feel the meaning behind the words. Allow this to expand into you being.  If your mind wanders, restate your ideal and repeat.

As you focus on positive ideals  the ideals become infused in our daily lives and allow us to achieve a new way of being.

All that we are is a result of what we have thought.

Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.

Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955)

Thoughts are things.

Edgar Cayce (1877 – 1945)

Mind is the builder.

Carl Jung (1877 – 1961)

Whether you think you can or think you can’t,

Either way you are right.

Henry Ford (1863 – 1947)

Everything is energy vibrating at different

rates of speed and at different levels of awareness.

Your mind, body and spirit are composed of this

same energy, each vibrating at a different frequency.

Think of your energy as one unifying force

that is connected to everything.

James Van Praagh/Meditations

What we need to do to allow magic to get hold

Of us is to banish doubts from our minds.

Once doubts are banished, anything is possible.

The Law Of Pure Potentiality

The source of all creation is pure consciouness…..

Pure potentiality seeking expression from

The unmanifest to the manifest.

And when we realize that our true Self is one

Of pure potentiality, we align with the power

That manifests everything in the universe.

Deepak Chopra/The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

There is no difference between the unknown

and the known-the known is manifest from

the unknown merely by asking.

The universe is very cooperative – as much as

it isn’t different from consciousness itself,

the universe is happy to create whatever we

wish to find “out there”.

David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D/Power VS Force

Being is eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad

forms of life that are subject to birth and death.  However,

Being is not only beyond but also deep within every form as

its innermost invisible and indestructible essence.  This means

that is is accessible to you now as your own deepest self,

your true nature.  But don’t seek to grasp it with your mind.

Don’t try to understand it.  You can know it only when the

mind is still.  When you are present, when your attention is

fully and intensely in the Now.  Being can be felt, but can

never be understood mentally.  To regain awareness of Being

and a bide in the state of “feeling-realization” is enlightment.

The Power of Now/ Eckhart Tolle

Edgar Cayce (1877 – 1945):   Also referred to as “The Sleeping Prophet”.

Every year, tens of thousands of people from all over the world become interested in the life work of one ordinary man. He was an average individual in most respects: a loving husband, a father of two children, a skilled photographer, a devoted Sunday School teacher, and an eager gardener. Yet, throughout his life, he also displayed one of the most remarkable psychic talents of all time. His name was Edgar Cayce.

For forty-three years of his adult life, Edgar Cayce demonstrated the uncanny ability to put himself into some kind of self-induced sleep state by lying down on a couch, closing his eyes, and folding his hands over his stomach. This state of relaxation and meditation enabled him to place his mind in contact with all time and space. From this state he could respond to questions as diverse as, “What are the secrets of the universe?” to “How can I remove a wart?” His responses to these questions came to be called “readings” and contain insights so valuable that even to this day individuals have found practical help for everything from maintaining a well-balanced diet and improving human relationships to overcoming life-threatening illnesses and experiencing a closer walk with God.

Though Cayce died more than half a century ago, the timeliness of the material in the readings is evidenced by approximately one dozen biographies and more than 300 titles that discuss various aspects of this man’s life and work. These books contain a corpus of information so valuable that even Edgar Cayce himself might have hesitated to predict their impact on the latter part of the twentieth century. Sixty years ago who could have known that terms such as “meditation,” “akashic records,” “spiritual growth,” “auras,” “soul mates,” and “holism” would become household words to hundreds of thousands? Further details about his life and work are explored in such classic works as There Is a River (1942) by Thomas Sugrue, The Sleeping Prophet (1967) by Jess Stearn, Many Mansions (1950) by Gina Cerminara, and Edgar Cayce-An American Prophet (2000) by Sidney Kirkpatrick.
